Juvenile Crimes: MIP
MIP stands for minor in possession. If someone under the legal drinking age of twenty-one is found to be in possession of alcohol, drinking alcohol, or buying alcohol, they could be convicted of this crime. Even if the minor did not consume any alcohol, they could still be punished. A MIP violation in California can result in a suspended driver's license for up to one year. Other penalties could include classes, treatments, and community service.
According to Business and Professions Code Section 25662, any person under the age of 21 who is in possession of an alcoholic beverage in a public place is guilty of a misdemeanor and could be fined $250. No one wants to have this on their criminal record as they are starting their career or gaining further education.
